The president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, welcomed the current OSCE chairman-in-office during a visit to the country last February 2010. Kanat Saudabayev, who is also the foreign minister of Kazakhstan, made a stopover in Armenia during a regional visit.
In the course of Saudabayev’s visit, Serzh Sargsyan took the opportunity to thank the OSCE chairman for Kazakhstan’s cooperation with Armenia, placing an emphasis on Kazakhstan and Armenia’s alliance, as well as their mutual membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
As president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan expressed his hopes to strengthen the bilateral and multilateral agreements or cooperation between Kazakhstan and his country, especially now that Kazakhstan is the chairman of OSCE. According to Sargsyan, Saudabayev’s regional visit enabled him to see the current problems up close and allowed him to contribute to finding solutions to the existing problems.
Aside from this fact, Serzh Sargsyan also mentioned Armenia’s standpoint regarding the NK conflict resolution. Sargsyan pointed out both Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh’s interest in resolving the conflict and stressed that the solution to the conflict should focus on the main causes, as well as the consequences, of the problem.
The Kazakh foreign minister, on the other hand, thanked the Armenian president for supporting Kazakhstan in assuming the chairmanship for the intergovernmental security organization. Saudabayev also informed Sargsyan about his priorities as OSCE chairman, as well as Kazakhstan’s plan to convene a summit for the OSCE Heads of States.
As for his opinion regarding the NK conflict, Saudabayev says that Kazakhstan is willing to provide help to the co-chairs of the Minsk Group in order to maximize their effort in resolving the ongoing conflict. In addition, Saudabayev also pointed out that the removal of the weapons from the line of contact would be an advisable thing to do. According to him, doing so would be an important step in resolving the NK conflict.
