As standards of accommodation in this popular holiday destination are high. Whilst the island itself boasts a raw beauty that is characterised by other worldly volcanic scenery. As Lanzarote is home to over 300 volcanoes – but don’t panic as they are all now dormant.

These volcanoes were formed by massive eruptions in the 1730´s – and today this whole region is the most popular attraction on Lanzarote. And is visited by close to one million tourists every year. Making this one of the most popular national parks in the whole of Spain.

Indeed some visitors may not even be aware that Lanzarote is part of Spain – as well as the EU to boot. As the island is located much closer to Africa, just 80 miles or so off the coast of Morocco. Which is the reason why the climate here is so good – enabling visitors to enjoy a holiday even during the winter months.

Self catering accommodation is very popular and there are hundreds of apartments and villas in Lanzarote or visitors to choose from. With everything available from simple studios through to luxury rural properties.

Villas in Puerto del Carmen, the islands largest resort are particularly popular. As this is where the bulk of holidaymakers are billeted. With the resort boasting some great beaches which are ideal for families as well as plenty of nightlife and restaurants for those who like lively evenings out.

Playa Blanca in the south of the island is the second most popular resort – thanks to a winning combination of great beaches and excellent weather. And Playa Blanca holiday villas and apartments are also in demand.

The third main resort on Lanzarote is called Costa Teguise – and this was first developed during the 1970´s as a more upmarket holiday destination. Although today there is little to separate it from its resort rivals to the south.

All visitors to the island will find that there is plenty to do wherever they are staying. A an island Lanzarote offers an abundance of boat tours – including excursions to the neighbouring Canary islands of La Graciosa and Fuerteventura. As well as diving, sailing, snorkelling and surfing.

On dry land there are some great sights to explore – such as the volcanic region, which is called the Timanafaya National Park. Along with the work of Cesar Manrique, a local artist who developed a series of unique visitor centres.
